My laptop power settings keep changing at random which is very annoying  sometimes its so dark I have to turn it off and start again.
Its a HP 550 laptop, I have updated all antivirus and malware programs run them and it comes up as ok what else can it be?
I have altered brightness to longer settings since the problem but it is still the same.
As anyone got any ideas?

sounds more like a problem with the backlight or inverter (they provide the brightness to the lcd screen)

The backlight is a very small, thin, long, very delicate light bulb that runs along the very bottom or sometimes the side of the screenEx forum ambassador

Cheers for the information I think my laptop is still under warranty as I took out the HP care pack for an extra year so will give that a try first.0
