My OH's dell laptop has stopped sound, volume etc ok. Plays through a set of headphones but not speakers. As both are not working its unlikely that they are both duff. Any ideas please?

Anyone know if the audio jack on inspiron1501 is separate to or part of the motherboard?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

have you tried going back to the original driver? I know it could be old, but sometimes I've noticed when updates are released via windows update for sound cards they can cause problems.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Yep, it seems there's a sensor at the end of the jack to cut the lappy sound when you put headphones on, it sometimes fails and cuts the lappy sound permanently.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
