Hi
I have been asked to supply a small baby shops with nappy cakes that I make. If I sell a few each week I would make a profit of about £30. Who do I have to inform? I am currently on severe disablement allowance and hoping to build enough business to come off it if sucessfull.
Thanks

You need to declare all money you make. I don't understand how you can a severe disablement but still manage to run a (small) business and claim benefits.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0

you should probably be able to claim disabled working tax credit, it's designed to help you get back into work after ill health as you may not be well enough to be able to work full time
contact the Tax credit office and get the forms. It is income tested so the more you earn the less you get from them but is a good safety net, particularly if you are going teh SE route and may not earn wages for a while anyway
you need to do a minimum of 16 hours a week
gross profit is not earnings btw when running a business you also need to account for utility costs etc as well so may make a zero in your first year0 -

Firstly may I congratulate you on having the initiative to do something for yourself, making cakes and selling them is I imagine excellent therapy.
This is more a hobby than a business at the moment and your allowed to do thereaputic work I'm not sure about the earnings cap but google it, although I'm sure there will be others on here who will know better than I and will advise you accordingly.
Speak to the disability advisor at your local JCP they'll be able to advise you and point you in the right direction.
Forget working tax credit, your not working enough hours and it's a hobby rather than employment at the moment.
Good luck and well done you.Beth

There are many ppl with severe disabilities, work and run many voluntary organisations helping to lobby government.
Disabled Parents Network being one, which is run very successfully, the management committee all volunteers some with severe disabilies and a team of disabled parents who have been trained to man the helpline. They also train so-called professionals in how to treat ppl with disabilities and long term health issues equally.
So yes ppl with severe disabilities are capable of work. We are just not able to manage within a working environment designed and suited for the able bodied.
Take a look at the pictures if you doubt me.

Have to agree!
It appears the OP has been on this benefit for at least the last 9 years!
(Since it's not been possible to make a new claim for it since April 2001!)
What is particularly interesting is the part where the OP says:
So presumably hoping to stay on it until it is. :cool:Rebob wrote:...hoping to build enough business to come off it if sucessfull.

In particular:
It is important that you contact your Jobcentre if your circumstances change. For example if:- you do any work including voluntary work

Rebob it seems to me you are getting some sound advice here from clearly knowledgeable people. When you are receiving benefits and starting to work you need to be sure you don't inadvertently find you are contravening rules and regulations or missing out on something you could have claimed.I did not come asking for people to start on at me. I thought the idea of the site was to give help to others.:o
Good for you being so active in setting up your business and I don't think people are starting on you.0
