Gym membership SCAM? Help!

I joined a local independent gym 2 years ago, on a 3year fixed membership at £18 p/month, they seemed to be having some diffculties - sometimes the electricity would fail when I was there and they were losing money, then all of a sudden they left my area (2min walk) to go a mile and a half away to a different area.
Because I don't drive and Iam young a female I don't particularly want to go it late night when I'd usually go, on the bus in the dark but they are saying that unless I am moving 30miles away or have a doctor's note I am locked in for the remaining year?
Does this sound watertight?
Also, what makes me suspect is that when I asked for my contract copy they said it would be a £10 charge??
Thanks in advance for your thoughts guys.

I've seen terms in a contract showing that if YOU move 30 miles away, you can have your contract cancelled, but I've never ever seen a T&C stating that if the GYM moves up to 30 miles away you can cancel!
You could call their bluff and write back stating that you've read your signed contract, and there are no T&Cs referring to the relocation of the gym, so as it's not longer accessible to you, then you are giving them 1 months notice to cancel your membership. I would also give them the alternative option of paying for a taxi for you to use the gym twice a week!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
