I'm confident he can fill in a quote correctly in the event
Anyone can make a mistake.
Plus computers can too, but you'll get the blame (unless you can categorically prove otherwsie - most of the time people can't).He just feels that because insurers seem to take any opportunity to raise your premium, and you're giving them information with a quote, then they'll find any excuse to use that information against you.
They also want to be competitive to get business, so they won't just put up quotes willy nilly.
He's being paranoid.
If you've told the truth there is nothing to worry about.
I would be mad at him if he was my other half, for being mad at me without knowing his facts.
Don't put up with it or you'll be stuck with that kind of behaviour for life.0 -
Some insurers will credit check you, maybe that's what he meant?0

No, I think he genuinely meant that, because data is power, they'd use it against us. Sure, there are many times data can be taken advantage of, like when you're a captive market, but, as Lisyloo says, that doesn't make sense here because we can choose. Quotes need to be competitive, there's nothing for them to gain by charged you extra for something that has no justifiable bearing on what sort of risk you present to them.0

Im done then, I have x3 cars so have to shop around. It doesnt make any difference0

I've done it as well.
I did it with the same 3 insurers last year about 5 times because their quote prices started to go down over the month then suddenly went up. I still managed to get the cheapest quote as I ensured all the quotes and quotation numbers where emailed to me.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
If you use comparison sites (as advised on MSE ) you will get quotes from numerous companies. It makes no difference to your final quote. I expect insurance companies will only share details to prevent fraud, ie vanishing points, accidents etc.
de-parking can be tricky.0 -
Your mistake was not obtaining quotes this is quite normal, as has been said we are actively encouraged these days to get as many quotes as possible so this really should not be a problem.
however
Your mistake may have been claiming for a dented door, as a new driver no matter what age you are if you have a claim that was your fault within the first 12 months of driving this is absolutely going to have a a very negative effect on your premium in year 2, unless you drive a porsche or similar you would have done better to swallow the cost of repair yourself, especially if it was an older car you really may have done yourself some long term premium damage by claiming in the first place...............................................
The decision I made when I first started to drive was unless I crash into someone else and it is my fault I would not be claiming for at least the first 3 years, I always drove older cars anyhow so even if I had written one off into a wall I would not have claimed and simply replaced the car oh and the wallI am convinced this would have saved me money in the long run.
Your husband is quite right in one way any car insurer will wildly increase your premium if the "risk" increases through crashes and claims.

TBH, it was more than just a dent - not a panel-beating job. We have got back a quote that, while it's a lot more than he was paying before (I think he has an unusually low premium heretofore) it's one hell of a lot less than paying for new door panel, even if it stays that price for a few years, and we couldn't deal with that kind of one-off expenditure at the moment.0
