Is your husband working at present? If he is off sick, is he claiming SSP or ESA?
    Gone ... or have I?

Every tax credit claim is tested against the following 12 verification rules. If any of the rules are not satisfied, the claim will appear on the ‘Verification Failures’ Work List

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/ntcmanual/applica_appl_wl/ntc0050475.htm

Is it a TC655 form? This means when making checks on your new claim there has been a 'child not matched' verification failure.
When a child’s details held on the tax credits claim do not match the details held on the Child Benefit computer, the child must be traced so that the claim can be processed.

You will be sent a TC655 form with some questions about the child/young person and it will most likely request you return it with a copy of their birth certificate.

What benefits is he claiming at present? Is he still receiving his salary? Was he in hospital from May to August?

  • if you contact your local tax office and explain your circumstances they will work out what you are entitled to and pay you on a giro and knock it off the full amount when you do get it...you will have to go there once a month to collect it though.....

You will not receive any ctc until you have returned the fully completed TC655. Re emergency payments - not all enquiry centres facilities have the facility to make emergency giro payments and even the ones that do may or may not issue an emergency payment - it all depends on circumstances and the reason for the claim taking so long.
  • Please be aware that even receiving a tc655 form can take a while, mine was requested on 20th August, I received it on 2nd October! Fortunately my local tax office are a sympathetic bunch and had downloaded one for me whilst I was still waiting for tc office to post thiers. Tax Credits have now had birth certificates and passports for 3 weeks, and still nothing. So it appears it can be quite a slow process.
