My advice would be every morning get the metro and check towards the back what is free for that day. Every day they have new free events around the city and its so random that you could end up experiencing something that you might not have chosen anyway, so will have that feeling of adventure!!!!

Don't forget that 99% of the museums are free and open late at least one evening of the week. Late night shopping in Oxford St on a Thursday will take you quite far into the evening...
  • I will get the November list at the very end of October - I will post as soon as I get it for you.

It would be very helpful if you could post that when you get it. Thank you :)

I am a big fan of London Walks - you get to chat to the other people on the walk (Londoners as well as tourists), see London, learn some fun facts and - if you choose a pub crawl - get a few beers in too. Check out http://www.walks.com. It's not free, but IMHO pretty decent value for London - £6 for a two hour-ish walk (longer with the pubs!).

Also, there are free show recordings you can go to, with a bit of advance planning - another not bad on-your-own option, I reckon. The Drill Hall has radio shows for BBC recorded there (often ciomic ones), and there is a bar. http://www.bbc.co.uk/whatson/tickets/howto_dh.shtml

  • I would suggest going to the tate modern- entry is free, and you get to go on this really big slide!
  • https://www.visitlondon.co.uk has a section called "special events" which is good for one-off stuff...

If you have a CD player or an MP3 player why not try one of these free walks along the Thames - you will here 30 or so different people telling you about different aspects of life on the river in London. You can view/listen/download it at https://www.memoryscape.org.uk each walk takes about a couple hours; one at Hampton Court, the other a Greenwich
