Hi
When I copy files to flash drive for backup purposes, should I be zipping them? If I do zip then will anything change ie on photos or files so that the quality is changed?
Thanks so much

No need to zip them unless free space is becoming an issue. If you click on My Computer, right click the drive letter, select properties, what are the used space and free space amounts? If the free space amount is small then you've always got the option of zipping files or folders on the memory stick.
It won't decrease the quality of the photo, it'll simply store the photo in another file or wrapper which uses less space.0 -
No quality will be lost - but .... haven't you got a dvd writer - a dvd holds 4.3 GB of data and costs less than 15p - USB stick is an expensive way to back up. If no dvd writer you could move them on your USB stick to a pc with a dvd writer- friend, grandma, work, library, neighbour or maybe try some free online storage.0

Yes, thanks both of you I've managed to copy to a flash drive and some sd cards! Lots there. Would need a few dvds but the drive is working intermittently so further to a post I did a while ago about my 'slow dying laptop' I'm just slowly going through those pieces of advice and really thank you, I think I'm about there. Just the emails to back up ( theres a fair bit of data I might have duplicated which I think is an issue ) I guess I just need to post the malwarebytes log and then do you think I can format so that things work - stuff like itunes aren't working even when I download etc so need to restore the laptop.
Timely, but worth it!!
THANKS so much guys, think I'm there with the backups just sending some emails to another email address so I know i've got them. Then next steps!!!You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt
