If he only had your postcode, then how did he identify your exact address?

Depends where you live - I live in a remote area and my postcode covers 3 properties (though they are about 1/2 a mile apart)

Now the nutcase has left I wouldn't worry about his "complaint" too much although at the time it must have been very uncomfortable for both yourself and the genuine buyer. I regularly buy and sell things on Gumtree and would never consider turning up at someone's address without having agreed a time (even though Gumtree require you to supply a post code and put it on the add). When selling things I seem to have a pretty good filter for the loonies and simply don't reply to them. By all means sell the other item and try not to let this bad experience put you off. There are sane people who use these sites!

It is also to be hoped that in your statement you emphasised that he turned up at your home, unwanted and unexpected and that he was threatening. That's weird enough to get any responsible site to ban him at once.

Indeed. If a complete stranger turned up on my doorstep, acted like he did, being threatening, intimidating and verbally abusive, I'd have called the Police.

Same here- he may have been upset, but you didn't ask him to call, nor did you give him your addy- though if he had postcode, address isn't too hard to work out if he knows your name....
Complain to the site and tell them how threatened you felt.

(On the cross dressing note, I'm female with 9-9.5 size shoes, and I'm not selling them online again!)

    Well, just a quick update.

I have finally had an email back from the Mod.

Barry has alleged I was rude and aggressive to him.

Gilly sadly has not answered any mail sent by the Mod to confirm the circumstances and everyones behaviour.

As such it’s a he says/she says situation.

The Mod advised he does not wish me to quit the site but he can’t ban or remove Barry either and to put it down to a learning experience.

    *sigh*

(Ps, we only have three houses in our post code area - he knocked on everyones door)
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...

Why do people have to chuck they're toys out of the pram especially when they get the wrong end of the stick, i see toys chucked out of the prams at work as people have little spats with other colleagues

If you don't feel happy on that site any more, leave, and tell the Mod exactly why (plus the fact he can't seem to do anything about Barry - no warnings, black marks - smells like 30 year old fish to me).

    You did everything right.
    Wouldnt worry about it.

Theres a few local sites (not gumtree) where this isnt unusual.
Some community sites people offer things at almost giveaway prices as they see it more as charity than selling the item.
