Loyalty cards? Why eat atthe same place all the time, variety is the spice of life!!!!!
  • Fairly conclusive: the younger, the more dishonest (with notable exceptions) but I must admit to being surprised at how many wrinklies would steal as I thought it was drummed into us from a very early age just how wrong theft is, in whatever form. The utter naivity of some respondents is impressive too in that they seem to have no idea of who actually pays in the end (you and me).

In my world anyone caught doing this should go to prison for 3 months and be forced to pay back at least 100 times what they have stolen as compensation. Maybe then they would get the message that stealing is wrong. Note that it is not the Company you are stealing from - it is their customers as all this (or any other) company would do is hike the prices to cover their loss due to theft.

For the really upright citizen (GreenBarron) who entered a penny for an £11 bill, this should still be traceable if the company sees the blog and checks their credit card transactions - a penny one should stand out so lets hope that the guy is arrested for theft in the near future, made to pay the difference plus 100 times compensation and fined/jailed to make him think twice about doing it again). I'll bet his Mum is proud of him though maybe he should rename himself RobberBarron as a more honest(!) description of himself - but don't hold your breath.
  • This store also has security cameras and my debit card is linked to my name so if they wanted to prosecute me they would have. I used to go subway at least 4 times a week every week for two years when I went to college so if I had a loyalty card then I would have got way more than £11 free food with all those points. Your theory of hiking the prices is wrong as when they introduced loyalty cards none of the prices increased.

But your totally over-reacting in your method of punishment. I'm am an honest person but I also like saving money and take opertunitys which I'm glad of as people who take advance of opertunitys in life do alot better than people who don't.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Some people on here still seem quite prudish.

As in its morally wrong to use the card therefore its a major issue even if its minor.

What would happen if I had a loyalty card for a similar sort of proudct/store and lost it with most of the stamps, then my friend offered me a card of the same store fully stamped but I knew it was stamped too much, yes I would use it.

If I had my own stamp or a friend that gave me a card a lot it doesnt mean I would use it every day or even that often.

I mean right now I have vouchers for £1 meals at Wetherspoons(local promo) but choose to go to a baker for a meal deal, or subway, or eat at university or just wherever I find I want to go.

But I shouldnt be shamed that I want to use the card now and again.

With me itis partly due to affluence because after paying rent every week I am left with £7 a day foor utilities and food and luxuries so I would use it.

Its not as if the companies wouldnt screw you over if the situation was reveresed.

My friend went into Subway before and bought a meal deal but as there was a massive queue and he was basically being prodded out the door he forgot his drink and crisps, literally walked a few feet to the door then spoke to me outside and realised he forgot went back in but had to go to back of queue then manager was serving as the guy who served my friend wasnt there. The manager was snotty and said my friend needed a receipt to prove he purchased a meal deal(despite having the sub still in his hand)

Needless to say we never went back to that store ever again.

So if I steal from restaurants and then post about it on a forum I'll be taking "advance of opertunitys" too?

You should share more of your knowledge and expertise so we all may benefit. In return I'd be more than willing to send you a decent dictionary.

Well I wouldn't normally post about it on a forum but this thread seemed to have too many people saying they wouldn't do it when the poll suggests otherwise. My "advice" as you call it can't be all too bad because you just offered me a decent dictionary for free even free postage as a direct result of what I have posted on here. But unfortunately even if I had the dictionary prior to writing that post it wouldn't have made a difference to my iPhone's auto-correct "feature" which decided I should write "advance" instead of "advantage".

But I hope this new information doesn't change the offer of a free dictionary. Can you please PM me with details of how to claim it ;)

No I wouldn't as it is wrong. How could you enjoy the food knowing it has been dishonestly obtained?

  • The poll shows not only would people do it but also most would lie saying they wouldnt.

  • I'm surprised at the number of people that are surprised at the number of 'dishonest' people that have voted.

Take a look around some of the different forums with the posts around how to fiddle different offers - registering lots of new accounts with a company to get new customer discounts or gifts - and it shouldn't really surprise you.

I do think there are some good questions raised though - would someone use it once, or a lot? Is someone younger, with less money and responsibilities more open to trying it?

A previous poster also noted that the company still makes a fair whack out of customers using the 'free' offer in Nando's. We have one near the office, so I have a couple of cards that get filled up. No matter how many times I use it I'm always surprised at what little diffference there is between buying a combo meal (chicken and a couple of sides) and buying a couple of sides to go with your free piece of chicken....
