Business Travel to US - tips please!

Hi
It now looks like I am going to be making regular business trips to the US.
A couple of questions spring to mind.
Firstly would it be advisable to get a business visa in my passport?
Secondly I have been looking at the cheapest way of flying. It would appear best if I get a single ticket from the UK to the US, then when I return from the US, I would by a return with a 12 month open return. If I took this course, would I have any hassle with immigration explaining why I only have a single ticket into the country.
Any other tips gladly welcomed.
Cheers!

May be better to ask that question on Flyertalk.
Most obvious thing I'd add would be to join a FF club, oh and take me along as your travel agent:rotfl:0 -

I travel on business to the US very frequently and always travel on a Visa waiver and never have any problems.
In terms of a single ticket, I wouldn't recommend this as immigration always ask wen you are returning and I don't think you are allowed entry without a return ticket. I may be wrong on this though0 -
If you have any trips in prospect before the year end it might be worth considering flying across the pond with bmi, as they have a triple mile promo till the year end.0

You can travel to the US with a single ticket but you can't use the Visa Waiver scheme unless you have a return ticket. Should be ok if you have a visa. You are likely to be subjected to more security checking at the airports if you have a single ticket.0

a single ticket also puts you up the list for security profiling ...allegedly0

Many thanks for your valid replies. Looking at ticket prices it is more or less double the cost if booking from the UK than from the US. I will more than likely be flying on US Airways as they fly direct to Charlotte North Carolina. Just thought I could buck the system with buying my first ticket as a single then flying on returns. It would mean that each time I fly back into the US, I would be on a single ticket! Could be more trouble than it's worth I guess....Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. It does - I've experienced it
Your boarding card often gets marked with a code that alerts the staff when you go through security0 -
