Cheap Train Fares guide discussion

Presumably the same thing applies when you buy a cheap ticket only to discover that the wretched train stops as your "home" station on your return journey ?
Do you jump off and hope to blag your way out of the station (if the ticket collector has not gone home), or stay on the train and have to come back from the next station by bus ?
I feel a lot of the cheap tickets are a response to competition from long distance coach services ?!0 -

If advance fare than normally no breaks are allowed.
Although if your 'home' station has no ticket barriers or staff...0 -
Try a trip to Hastings instead. £13 return with railcard.
You can find advance singles from Southampton to various places on Southern for from £5
Or how about a Southern DaySave ticket for £14 and visit several places.0 -
Sorted the issue, it seems Red Spotted Hanky went for the 'fast' option [even though the time taken is the same]. Now they are saying the same as the Southern website for the return leg
(I did a Southern DaySave to Milton Keynes from Southampton yesterday, fancy going East to see the cliffs)

Edit - How very strange the 7th & 14th suggests coming back via Tonbridge & Redhill, but put in the 21st & 28th and it suggests coming back via the slower Brighton route. 5th October suggests Tonbridge & Redhill. Engineering works in that area?0 -
I need to make a day return trip from the London area to the Birmingham area on a weekend in mid October.
Was expecting to use the coach but it seems there is a revenue management war going on at the moment between Chiltern Rail and Virgin Rail?
Anyway with a Senior Card there are some cheap offers on Red Spotted Hanky.at about £7 each way.
Am I right in thinking there is some method of using Tesco Points to pay ?
If so what is the method ?0 -

Register online here:
https://secure.tesco.com/register/?
then convert any points vouchers via http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/boost-at-tesco/
for double the value on RSH tickets."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"
