1513 from Camborne on the Wednesday - £42.50

1626 return on the Sunday - £28 - earlier trains more expensive.

These are advance singles for the whole journey - no splits

It might be worth looking for advance fares on the splits the split ticketing site has given you - it only deals in walkon fares.

There is 10% discount available via the First Great Western website on their Advances for travel dates between 08 September 2013 and 03 May 2014.

(No good on the journey above as travel must be on or after 08 September 2013).

My friend wants to come down from Glasgow to Milton Keynes, prefer traveling late night 23 Aug to arrive MK early morning Aug 24,as we are going to Southend for the day to support a friend doing the NO TO BEDROOM TAX demonstration,We have a lift arranged to Southend from Milton Keynes, would there be any chance of her being able to get a split ticket from some rail company at this short notice ???????Also she wants to return to Glasgow 25 Aug,so would that be an open return ticket she needs, sorry I only do coach travel to and from Glasgow due to I have an OAP discount card, and dont have a clue about rail fares or rail travel.:o

I would be so grateful for any advice at all if anyone can offer any, sorry its short notice, thank you:)

Virgin and Transpenine cover the route Glasgow-Preston
and Virgin, London Midland cover Crewe-Milton Keynes.

Try splitting the journey into 3 sections GLC-Pretson,
    Preston-Crewe & Crewe-MK.

Or try Via Manchester with GLC-MAN (operated by TPE) and
    Man_MK(operated by Virgin)

Use http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ journey planner to check the fares and DON'T BUY FROM

It can be done for £85 using advance singles:

Leave Glasgow at 2010, arr MK 0659, changing at Crewe and Birmingham. £40. Snag is there's a 5 hour wait in Crewe

If she would prefer to spend the night in MK then it's a fiver extra to leave at 1830 and arrive 2239 - through train

Returning there's a £45 fare on the 1550 from MK on the Sunday afternoon

Split tickets (not advance fares) can be bought on the day if you go down that route.

    Hi all

Looking for some help, thoroughly confused lol

Want to book tickets from Birmingham new street to Manchester airport return

    Dep 16oct arrv by 1830
    Ret 25oct dep after 900
    2 adults

How would I do this cheapest?

I would prefer to go by train but only if I can get it really cheap (tend to feel sick on long car/bus trips).

Any help would be appreciated as can't seem to get hang of this split ticketing business

Can't help with the train journey, but have you tried staring at the ceiling ?
This confuses the automatic reaction triggered by your inner ear.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_ear

The theory is that when we "naked apes" were hunter gathers and ate something poisonous, the resulting staggers triggered the vomit reflex.
Still seems to work with too much alcohol !

As someone who as a child once ate too much Easter egg before a mountain car journey, you have my sympathy.

The most you should pay is £41.20 each off peak return. You can buy that on the day or now as you choose - same price

You can shave a bit off this (maybe a fiver) by buying (now) advance singles in each direction. But you would be stuck if your plane was late and you missed the booked train with the cheap fare - a single on the day is £40-ish

Forget split ticketing - I don't think it will help on this journey.
