Thank you for the help on this. For this particular route, I was after one way, as I had managed to book a return cheap through megatrain. Think I paid £36 in the end, from warrington to london. Though your way looks much cheaper.

I do now however, have to find some more trains. I have searched through, but I am really not very good at this. I need to do a return to London, for 2 adults 1 child (The second adult is 16, so I assume he will be an adult fare)

I want to take them away for half term, so off peak is fine. They are off 12th feb till the 20th feb. So anytime between then, though would like about 4 days in London ideally, though a few extra days would not be a problem. Megatrain is not pulling any up for me.

Ideally, between Liverpool/runcorn and London, but of an afternoon/evening able to travel to Manchester or warrington.

I know that i am being a pain with all the details, but I do really hope that you can help me. And it i so so much appreciated.

a bit late answering but this may help you if you havent sorted out your tickets yet.

I'm using it to go from Northampton to Liverpool on Thursday return, £10...bargain:T:)

Hi all! I'm looking for the best price for a return trip between Warrington and London. We're a group of 4 adults and want to travel down late morning / early afternoon on Friday 6th May, returning some time on Sunday 8th May.

The cheapest prices coming up on Virgin's fare finder from Warrington Bank Quay to London Euston at times which will work for us are £35 each going down there (various options at this price arriving between midday and about 4pm) and £11.50 on the 8:20pm train on the way back, getting into Warrington about 11pm...so total £46.50pp.

I have managed to cut this down by travelling instead from Manchester to London for £17, plus the £11.50 fare to Warrington on the way back and an extra £6.80 fare from Warrington to Manchester on the Friday = £35.30. This would involve changing trains in Manchester but that's not a problem.

I think this might be as good as it gets but wondered whether anyone has any other suggestions for cutting the cost?

    Cheers!

thats probably as good as your going to get it to be honest. you have to remember your doing it at a weekend time which whilst not as busy through the week the cheaper tickets wouldve been snapped up sharpish..

Or from Bank Quay you could try splitting at stafford or crewe - I cant remember the diagrams mind

    You could maybe consider...

Anytime Day Single from Warrington Central to Liverpool South Parkway at £3.90.

Dep Liverpool SP at 10:15, 11:15 or 12:15 for Euston (change at Stafford).
    Arrive Euston 13:49, 14:49 or 15:49 respectively.
    Advance Single = £11.00.

Dep Euston 13:50, arr Liverpool SP 18:03.
Change at Rugby and Birmingham New Street.
    Advance Single = £11.00.

Then Anytime Day Single from Liverpool South Parkway to Warrington Central at £3.90.

Total cost for one person = £29.80.

With Advance Singles you must travel on booked train.

Note that the Liverpool - London leg is by London Midland trains and takes a while... 3.5hrs out and over 4hrs back.

Instead of splitting your journey at Manchester Pic, try going Via Manchester Pic or Chester, in your online search use advance/more options then Via and type 'Manchester Pic' or 'Chester'

Just had a quick look and there is some cheap fares to be had but they leave before 12:00, I'll leave you to make that choice.

At the moment, the 14:21 from WBQ to EUS on the 6th May is coming up at £23.50 pp for 4 on an advance. Works out about the same cost as your Manchester route, but a lot less hassle.
