hi all, just after a bit of friendly advice really...
were with british gas on the standard gas plan, and when we get our bills every quarter, its round about the £186 mark...
now ive sat and worked this out ( i think its correct ) and i come up with £45.50 a week and comes to £6.50 a day.
we rarely use the gas, yet we use the electric constantly, even have a electric oven, the electricity in our house is constantly in use, but our bill for the quarter is never more that £30.00.
I think im being overcharged by BG, I wanna ring them and enquire about this but Im scared they'll bullly me into thinking theyre charging the right price, but then maybe they are... its just the usage levels of the respective energy dont add up...
any advice guys?

You need to post consumption as well as costs as this make it easier for people to see what you are using.

Hi deathvalleydemon - As spiro has posted, your post is a bit short on detail for hard advice, however:
Assuming you have just had a bill for £186, it covers 3 summer months and £186 for this period is indeed high, BUT, if the previous bills have been 'Estimated', Denoted by an E beside the closing meter reading, you are now paying for Gas you used last winter.
When the supplier gets the gas Bill wrong it's usually because of a mix-up in the type of Meter you have - It will either be IMPERIAL which is marked Ft3 on the front or METRIC which is marked M3
To check the bill divide the Meter Units used figure, into the number of Kw charged: If the answer is appx. 11 you are being charged for a Metric meter - If it's appx. 31 you are being charged for an Imperial meter
If the billing does not match the meters face plate, get onto BG IMMEDIATELY0 -
If you are on the standard tariff and pay quarterly (why?), then you are paying far more than you need to. Switch to the cheapest web tariff on monthly DD and your unit costs will be much lower.
£186 per quarter is about £2 per day, not £6.50.
Most of your gas costs will be for central heating and hot water. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I wasnt living in this property last winter, this is my first property since leaving my parents, and the bills are not estimates, theyre from readings.
