At last these are starting to die off. Made three lasagnes and two big pots of soup for freezer with all the courgettes awaiting us on our return from holiday. have a few flowering but that should be it. Now to start on the mountain of squashes, we will be eating soup till the spring.
Note to self, grow less next year although have to say they have saved us a lot of cash. I am still picking lettuces and tomatoes and will have to start on the cabbages soon as they are so big. Swedes coming up in all shapes and sizes but should be ok and parsnips look healthy. All in all its been a good year despite the drought. We do love our allotment.

I've also just picked the last of the courgettes and am pleased to see the back of them, even though I try to pick them when they're nice and small and tender. It can sometimes be a bit of a challenge finding imaginative ways to use up all your surplus crops, if they can't be frozen, in ways that don't make you sick and tired of them. Am now into my next challenge of using up all the Swiss Chard, Cavalo Nero kale and leeks.0

I love my courgettes. There are still lots growing, so I think I will still be coming up with ways to use them for a number of weeks yet. Isn't it amazing how long they keep in the fridge compared to shop-bought ones?
I am going to follow a MSE tip, and get myself some of the 9p Asda curry sauce jars and make some courgette chutney. I used up the last of my jars pickling beetroot and a batch of green tomato chutney I made today.
I'm finding that the flowers are starting to go rotten quite quickly on my courgettes, so I go round them each day and flick off any that look like they are starting to turn mushy. The courgettes eem to be quite happy to keep growing without their flowers.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

I planted four but had to give away bags full. Never tried the cake just soup and lasagne and fortunately my dd loves both but as she has no spare time to make them I do this for her.0
