Will a washing machine fit in my Peugeot 306

Hi,
I've found a cheap second hand washing machine that I'd like to buy but I'm not sure whether it will fit in my car and was just wondering if anyone has ever managed to get a washing maching into the back of a peugeot 306 (hatchback)? I know the space in the car is big enough but not sure if the boot gap is too small. (also - will it damage it if I lay it on it's side?)
If no answers before this evening I'll go out and measure it but just wondered if anyone could tell me before then.
Cheers

I got one in the back of my old 306 its a bit of a heave though to get it out as the sill is very high to get it over.I put the rear seats down and it took 3 of u to get it in and out.I dont know if all washing machines are the same size this was 7 years ago and the washing machine was a "Hoover"0

I don't think washing machines have changed in size (might have to check that one) - this one is a few years old though so should be ok.
Well that gives me hope that I can probably get it in - all I need to do now is enlist the assistance of some strong people to lift it over the boot sill!Feb 14 GC - £89.37/£3000 -
