HP All In One Printer help

My scanner has not worked for about 2 years (since we moved!?). It's one of those all in one machines, it prints fine and copies fine.
There is a patch I can download, but when I try to run it I just get a script error appear?!?
Can anyone help as I don't want to have to buy a new printer this side of Christmas??
