Best noise-cancelling headphones?

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a pair of noise-cancelling headphones? I fly a lot, so I'm prepared to invest in something decent. Happy with over-ear versions, which I presume are best in terms of minimising noise. And I will only be listening to iPod music on it (mainly ripped as MP3) so doesn't need to be tip-top audiophile quality, just decent.
Any ideas?

Thanks!
The (somewhat surprising) winner there is the Bose QuietComfort 15. Which at £279 isn't exactly cheap!

I have the Bose cans and they are excellent as noise-cancelling phones. However, I would not use them at home as the noise-cancelling somehow makes music sound compressed in a quiet environment.
If you have a Bose outlet anywhere near you, ask in there for refurbs - they don't always put them on display but may have some if you ask. I paid £200 for mine.
I also have used some Sennheiser foldable phones (cost around £120) and they were pretty good, but not in the same class as the Bose cans.0 -

I own a pair of the open version of the Sennheiser PX 100-II headphones and can't recommend them more. The closed version doesn't exactly get a bad review either and they're not too expensive at £47.45...

Also tried the px100 great set be wary buying from amazon unless it is direct because of fakes.0

I suggested B&Q ear defenders worn over conventional in-ear phones, but no-one took me seriously last time. I'll try and find the thread.....0

It might be better to go for noise-isolating earphones (which physically block sound from entering your ears), rather than noise-cancelling ones (which use circuitry to create sound waves that are the inverse of any background noise).
Noise-isolating 'phones will be cheaper, don't need their own power supply and won't create any audio artefacts due to the limitations of noise-cancelling circuitry.
My Shure SCL2 earphones sound great... maybe worth a look?0 -
