Solar Panel installation quotation

Hi

Can anyone help.

I've been getting quotes for a solar panel installation. Basically, WSW facing roof which can (theoretically) fit up to 4kw systems.

The best quote so far seems to be from the Green Project (using Rok). Their quote is:

Fourteen Sharp 235w panels installed on West facing roof area to provide 3.29 kWp output using a SMA SB3000 inverter or equivalent.

Estimated system output* 1,746 kWh per annum
Estimated Generation Tariff payment £ 721 p.a.
Estimated Export Tariff payment £ 26 p.a
Estimated electricity bill saving+ £ 111 p.a

Estimated electricity bill saving is calculated as 50% of system output @ 12.76p kW
Cost £9,899.10

I've also had a quote for a 18 x 220w panels producing an estimated 2,626 kwh p.a at a cost of £13,049.

Would appreciate any input as to whether the 3.29 system seems a good deal and whether the estimations made seem conservative, optimistic or about right. Located in South Wales area.

Thanks in advance.

Quote seems a very good price. Quite a large system to only produce what they claim but I guess thats because the roof is WSW facing. I'm hoping to produce a similar amount of electricity from a 2.11 kWP system but that is on a roof facing pretty much south.

Thanks. Thought the price sounded pretty good. What sort of price are you looking at for the 2.11 kwp system?
  • Looks like a very good price to me. I was quoted £9,500 by Tescos for just a 1.7kWp system. Looks like they have also given a sensible estimate of the output.

I would say the estimate is spot on and the price is very good - go for it!

Green Project as well - about 7800, so your price with the larger inverter and an extra 5 panels sounds good.

At £3,000 per kWp that is about the cheapest quote I have seen, particularly impressive using Sharp panels which are far from the cheapest.

Bearing in mind that the cost of scaffolding and some other overheads is fixed regardless of the size of system, it would be possible to get a 4kWp system for not much over £11k.

I think that the estimate of £111 for used electricity is a little on the high side. Does anyone pay 12.76p/kWh for tier 2 el;ectricity?

Cheers. The 3.96kwp system is £13k.

I think I might just go for the 3.29kwp system as, frankly, we prefer not to have just the 14 panels.

Your given estimate of the energy produced is only 50% of the khp on your 3.29kh system is because you state you are only a WEST facing roof.

you are therefore losing a large % of potantial available sun and energy production!

Have you the oportunity to split the array between an east facing roof space aswell?

the orientation and pitch of a non south facing roof becomes even more important to take as much advantage of the less than favourable position.

Even though you have a seemingly good price your returns/payback are going to be that much longer and makes it less than viable as a sensible option (unless you can split the array) going forward and you may well become very disappointed!

    regards

It seems strange that 3.29kWp is under £10k - so £3k per kWp yet the additional 0.67kWp is at £4.6k per kWp

Normally because of the fixed overheads of scaffolding, labour etc it costs less pro-rata to fit bigger systems

Indeed. Although the "return" on the 4kw system seems to be marginally higher.

Any view on beedydad's post? Can't really see the point of splitting the array onto onto the ENE facing pitch?

I must say that the prices quoted in this thread by Green Project seem far more reasonable than many others I have seen. This makes the possibility of me jumping on the band wagon far higher. Has anyone had on here had an installation by these people and can they recommend them?
