I soaked all the removable parts in a soda crystal solution (I didn't measure I just ad libbed) and then poured some of this solution on the cooker surface. After an hour, wipe and maybe add a bit of elbow grease, or just leave longer and it should be sparkling clean!

Could you give the burners and the trivets a good overnight soak in biological laundry-detergent? That should shift everything but if it doesn't a soak in ammonia should work. That's something that should be done outside for obvious reasons

Thank you! I have a shop down the road which sells "everything" so I'm sure they stock soda crystals. I'll give them a soak overnight & see what happens! If it fails I'll try amonia! where can I get it from?

A decent hardware shop should stock ammonia but I'd try the bio laundry detergent before as I expect you've already got that in. You'll find plenty of other uses for soda crystals but perhaps not the ammonia although it is a good spot stain-remover for clothing and whatnot.

I don't use bio washing detergent....bad skin in our house! If all else fails I'm sure I can ask for a cup from someone!!! How about Ariel stain remover powder? Just found a trial size under the sink!!!
  • im new to this part of mse and im after a good way to clean the gas rings on my hob, im ashammed to say they are very black, would coke do it if i left them over night and should i just do one to make sure they come out ok? or is there something else better? they are kinda bumpy (under the muck) so if i scrub them they still look dirty.

I just use brillo pads (or the cheapo version and then I can use one for the job and chuck cos it's black!!).

I've got gas rings as well. If they are marked with what looks like gas burns IYSWIM then I don't think these anything you can do, just one of those things.

If its burnt on stuff then I use Bar Keepers Friend

You can get it from Lakeland, but also Sainsburys/Tescos/Asda etc. Its really good and I can't recommend it enough.
