Now I wish to say many, many thanks for the person who written the tip here regarding the use of Baby Oil * on stainless steel - oh god does the hob look new again after all of the c**p removed
- looks like brand new, kettle came up in a lovely shine as well all of the other stainless steel stuff
- will look very presentable come dating with the local lasses
(hey I can cook and clean
    )
however one other problem.
Those pan holders or black stand parts of the gas hob - does anyone have a brilliant way of cleaning these - getting rid of the burt on food!? (last time I used fairy powerspray [pre MSE reading] on the old cooker and it ruined it so I don't want to be going down this road again)
Many Thanks
Mike

I put mine in the dishwasher and they come up lovely (only works of course if you have a dishwasher) otherwise try soaking for a while in some soda crystals that will proberbly do the trick.Pawpurrs x0

I put mine in a bin liner along with the oven trays etc with a cupful of amonia (from Robert Dyas) I couldn't believe how easily the gunge wiped off it all the next day. Best to leave it outside overnight cos the smell is rather overpowering.True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20060

i cleaned my cooker yesterday using my cheap 13p washing up liquid and a bit of elbow grease
made up a strong solution of w/up and water - bout 50;50 - and left the pan stands in it to soak for an hour - quick rub with a nylon scourer and they were sparkling! (and they were 3 months baked grime on em!)wading through the treacle of life!

Thanks everyone - I will try these out this evening (pending parent expection tomorrow!!!   )0

Oven pride is excellent although £3.99 and a bit messy to use but does the job of cleaning oven racks etc. Nothing I have tried before this worked. Might try the amonia tip though?0

If you try ammonia - do not lean over it and breath in!!!
Do not let it anywhere near bleach as it makes a poisonous gas!
Does a great job of cleaning oven trays etc."This site is addictive!"

you could also try soaking them in a solution of biological washing powder...cheap and seems to do the trick on mine!

Yup, I threw all my oven shelves into the bath with some washing powder, left them to soak and with a bit of a scrub they came up sparkling - this was after not cleaning my oven for 18 months! Oh the shame of my pre OS days, shockingComps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

Anyone have a cheap & effective cleaner to clean the burners on a gas hob? Mine are pretty horrible & I'd love to have them sparkling again. Also need the same for the metal trivets.
Many thanks!0
