Laser versus inkjet printer

Our old Epson Stylus inkjet has finally died after a few years of pretty poor service and needs replacing.

We only used it periodically and the Epson was always clogging up because of this requiring lots of head cleaning.
So I want to know if modern inkjets also suffer from this if not used regularly and whether Lasers are any better in this respect?

We only use for text & simple graphics - no photos.

Should we go for a colour laser?

I know upfront costs are high but long term I hear they are more cost effective.

If Laser is the winner - any recommendations?

Epson have a seperate print head from the cartrideg. On most other printers the printhead is on the cartridge and therefore even with a couple of refills it gets used much less and therefore are not prone to blockages.

New laser cartridges and refills are more expensive than inkjet cartridges but do last longer.
