Toyota RAC to AA transfer
When I bought my Toyota several years ago it came with free RAC membership plus a discount for a second car. We thus bought membership from RAC for the second car. A few months ago Toyota wrote to inform us that it was transferring all members to the AA and we did not need to take any action.
Our latest credit card bill now shows a payment to the RAC for the next years membership for the second car at the full rate. The money has been debited without any warning from either Toyota or RAC that this would be the consequence of the change made by Toyota.
Extensive conversations with all parties has resulted in both Toyota and the credit card company stating its is not their fault/responsibility and RAC saying they can do nothing about it including not allowing us to cancel our annual membership immediately.
(To add to this we bought a new second car last week - not Toyota - which also comes with irs own free breakdown service)
Surely this can't be right?

I'm not quite sure how this relates to Forum Rules & Policy, perhaps the Motoring, Public Transport & Cycling board would have been more appropriate?
Anyway, you probably agreed to a continous authority payment when you took out the RAC deal. If you did, then it was up to you to cancel the policy with RAC before it's renewal.
If you didn't, then the RAC were not authorised to debit your card a second time. As the credit card company say that the RAC were not at fault, presumably they are satisfied that proper authority was granted by you for the amount involved.
It would be surprising that the RAC didn't advise you in advance of the impending renewal. It would also be surprising the price was identical to last years. If they didn't advise you in advance and the price did change, how would you know how much they would collect?
Possibly another case of lost or stolen letters involving Royal Mail. I suggest you want to check if any letter was sent, and if it proves it was, then complain to Royal Mail and possibly the police also."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
