Thanks Eamon. Just did the live chat with EDF and it wasnt too much use as they kept saying with their online tariff we estimate £30 pm which is laughable!

I would expect to be paying about £80 a month for electric to be honest - any more than that and I would start to worry!

Yeh true, well I did put aside £40 for gas and £40 for electric every month, but seeing as we wont be using any gas then £80 for electric sounds ok.

It doesn't work that way. Heating by electricity is 2 to 3 times more expensive than heating by gas, so your total fuel bills are always going to be much higher in an all-electric house.
The £40 saved on gas bills will be more than wiped out by the extra cost of electric heating.
If you don't pay by monthly DD then you will lock yourself out of many (though not all) of the most competitive tariffs.

    It's more complicated than that.

Whilst the unit charge per kWh of electricity (at daytime rates) is 2-3 times that of a kWh of gas (perhaps even 4 times), most electrical heaters are almost 100% efficient. In contrast, many gas boilers are only 60% efficient (perhaps a bit higher if it's a new boiler) and there are other losses associated with the wet system most gas central heating systems employ.

Then again, a daytime unit of electricity is also 2-3 times that of a cheap rate economy 7 unit :)

(Theres a bit of approximation in all that, as 1kWh of gas is generally cheaper than 1kWh of low rate electricity ... but efficiency of the different fuel heating systems still needs to be considered)

    If it was me....

Firstly id read the meter (both rates) and note it down

Then id switch all NSR's off, unless they are off, in which case id put ONE on and try to feel when it comes on, which right now should be approx 1am (maybe 01.30) and on for 7 hours

next day read the meter to see how rate 1 and 2 did over 24hrs

BTW put the "charge" setting on halfway and the room temp setting about midway too, as soon as they are fed they warm up (to convect) plus the bricks heat up

You WILL need a "economy 7" (type) taffif, cheap rate leccy is 4p/Kwh to me compared with 9p (day), thats Bgas wesaver online, wheras only 3 months ago it was 5p and 15p, as Bgas hadnt taken my request to swap me.....nice

if your on a non-E7 tarrif your NSRs will cost £2 each per night to run = £60 each/month.....(ish)
