    Hi

My Shih Tzu is 4 and 1/2 now and we had terrible problems training her to start with but eventually cracked it by rewarding her with a small biscuit every time she did it properly outside but it took over 6 months from getting her and I was even toying with the idea of letting her go (so glad I didnt). Unfortunately we still had a night time problem as we used to shut her in the kitchen and came down to soiling every morning. By allowing her to come upstairs and sleep in a basket in the bedroom she seemed happy and we had no more problems with soiling, she even scraps at the edge of the bed if she wants to go out in the night. I know some people say you shouldnt let them in the bedroom but Shih Tzu's are lap dogs and hate to be on their own and will idolise their 'mummy' and want to be with them.
I cannot comment on the food as we dont have a problem but Sox has a mixture of wet food and kibble (plus whatever else she manages to scrounge.) I actually give half the recommended amount of wet food (as she went through a stage of being a bit porky) and a handful of kibble which she eats at her leisure as its left down for her for when she feels hungry.
    Mortgage, paid off!
