The danger for buyers is the auctioneer taking 'bids off the wall' - i.e. making out that someone is bidding against you when no one is in order to drive up prices... or for there to be a ringer at the auction bidding up the prices. Does this go on? Surely not!
About a year or so ago one of these morning television programmes was about people buying/selling at auction. One seller's property didn't reach its reserve and the auctioneer openly admitted on camera he was taking bids "off the wall" to get the property up to its reserve. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
