Thanks for all the replies guys, you have reassured me that I have chosen the right car. I will go for a 1.6 but it will have to be petrol as there are no diesels for sales in our area.

    The one we are looking at is a;

    2001 Y reg focus 1.6 zetec
    68, 325 miles
    manual
    5 doors
    hatchback
    abs
    adjustable seats
    adjustable steering coloumn/wheel
    alloy wheels
    driver airbag
    electric windows
    immobiliser
    radio/cd
    sports seats
    remote locking
insurance group 6 - the only worrying thing!!
    £3895

Do you think that a resonable price??
    WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbs
    Weight today = 17st 6.5lbs
    Loss to date 32.5lbs!!!

Parker's (who are usually pretty reliable) reckon it's worth slightly less than that (I hope that link works!) although I don't know whether some of the items you listed are optional extras that would add to the value.

By all account they're good cars though, so I reckon you're making the right choice regarding make / model. Just don't take it to a Ford garage for repairs / servicing though...
