Seems a little unfair for an adult working full time.

How much do you think they should be paid for taking a plastic widgit off a conveyor and putting it in a box? £10ph ?

Many minimum wage jobs are part-time, short term or not 'main breadwinner'.

Presumably the OP started off on minimum wage and has worked up.

  • I think that the government needs to look at playing around with the personal allowances a bit more. That would be the best way to make an increase in wages at the bottom of the pay scale. VAT and other taxes on consumption mean that the government would get most of the money back. For a large up-front cost, you could do a lot of good in that direction.

This would also make it more worthwhile working compared to benefits.

I complain coz I live in London and with minimum wage you get no london allowance like you would with a wage per annum.

I work for Bupa but it's still MW and only 90p if you become a senior carer.

Not everyone moves up the ladder and gets off MW

Surely there is a difference between a £5.93Ph job and a £10Ph job currently? Wouldn't you then need to increase the £10Ph jobs according, and then so on across the board?

The minimum wage is perfectly fine, People use it as an excuse to be lazy, end of

Do my job just one shift then call me lazy!

But minimum wage is NOT forever

No the next step for lots of people i.e. carers, cleaners is retirement.

Though they are lucky and will actually get a retirement......

If this did not need to be paid then taxes could be reduced across the board including corporation tax which would go some way to subsidise the increased wage bill.

Oh now reducing corporation tax would be nice.

It might tempt me back into freelancing again :j

I'm lucky I earn a decent living wage but the majority of jobs available in this area do pay minimum wage, ones where the chance to work up the ladder just dont exist.

Unlike places like London the public transport is a joke, you need a car to get almost anywhere.

I dont have a problem with a minimum wage but I think the current level is to low, I think possibly a rate around £7.50 per hour is more acceptable.
  • People should thank their lucky stars that a labour government brought in a minimum wage, as a tory goverment in the past wouldn't have introduced one and there would still be some people earning £3 an hour in this day and age!
