File transfer Linux to Windows

Hiya,
I'm really confusing myself with this now so I'm asking you guys.
My old laptop is FUBAR'd so I've loaded linux on it so I can still access my files on HDD. Now it wont recognise any USB devices or anything so can't transfer files that way. I've not made a live disc because it seemed really dificult
I've managed to sucessfully once use the built in pnethood samba sharing tool built into Puppy to network with the desktop on Windows Vista and share some files, because the PSU is knackered as well I didn't get chance to move them all across and now I can't get them to pair up again (finds PC but says no shares). I can't understand all the different FTP programs on here (if I'm honest most of linux goes over my head).
I need a simple easy way to transfer my photos and files (and preferably my profile from Firefox) over to the desktop that haven't been backed up. Is there a way?
Thanks.

Samba can be a bit of a nightmare - in my experience it sometimes just works and sometimes is almost impossible to make work, depending on the default .conf file content.
TBH, if you don't want a Samba battle, I'd buy an external 2.5 inch external caddy (they are really cheap), put the old HDD in it and connect it via USB to the desktop. You may need to "take ownership" of the files within Windows, but it will probably be a lot easier than the alternative.0 -
I really should get a caddy.
I have managed to get my media card slot to work so I'm transfering it over 4GB at a time. *sighs*
As for my firefox stuff, like my bookmarks and passwords, do I just copy over the profile folder or do I have to add anything else?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

Firefox is best done using MozBackup. That way you get everything!

But I can only access my files by mounting them on a Linux drive, will that work?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

Probably not.
I think the bookmarks and everything are stored in the profile folder nowadays.
There's information here how to find the profile folder:-http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_FirefoxNever interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
Thanks, that explains why it didn't work, I copied over the default folder. Will have a go at that if I can get the laptop switched back on.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

Just order the caddy.
Don't give yourself an unnecessary headache. 0
