Moving & Housing Benefit - Overlapping Tenancy

2»

Comments

  • You should try to get the LHA for overlapping tenancies

There is provision on your new claim for benefit for just such an event i.e. Your new Landlord would not hold open your new tenancy until you had given proper notice.

Explain all the circumstances of your old let

They are often amenable to such events but you have to claim

If they refuse put in an appeal this often works

    Luck always

I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can get an appointment.

It's not the move that has to be unavoidable, it is the overlap - if I move on November 4th (so there would be no overlap) I will have just started a new job, and will not be able to have time off (due to having a minimum number of hours required for the course). Stress has a big impact on my health so I really need to move beforehand.

There are two issues here - moving house is stressful irrespective of personal circumstances, so you would need to demonstrate that this would have a significantly greater effect on your health than it would a healthy person. If you are fit enough to be starting a nursing placement, I think you would have difficulty proving this. The second issue is, if your partner is not working, there is no reason for you to have time off, they could do it themselves (so eliminating any stress for you).

I am bipolar, and my main two moves have been at times where I have been very unwell. On the first occasion my Dad and Brother did everything for me, and on the second I had professional removals (although I appreciate this is not an option for you). If you are concerned about stress, I would suggest taking yourself out of the situation altogether.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • My Dad is going to help (as we need someone to drive the van).

I think I'm going to take a back seat, maybe just focus on smaller things like moving the contents of the freezer and making sure we don't lose the kettle!

I'll let the blokes do all the lifting and playing tetris with the furniture in the back of the van :)

I'm just trying to keep positive about it - I relapsed after my previous two moves, hence the apprehension!
  • You have had some pretty good advise from dmg24

I think you should take it and remove yourself from the situation

  • Well, we may be getting the dual HB due to the environmental health issues regarding the access to the property and the risk involved with me coming home late in the dark.
We are moving on 22nd oct and the tenancy here ends on 9th nov so hopefully we'll get the payment (otherwise we are going to be very skint!).
Boyf's dad is driving the van and some friends are helping with the heavy stuff.
I've been doing quite a bit of packing (ornaments, summer clothes, etc.), but on the day I plan to take a backseat and let them stress iut about how to get the sofa down the stairs.
    Thanks for all the advice.
