If a minor is awarded damages for injuries which is under court fund regulations until the child is 18 does this amount count as savings for the single parent mother?
There is virtually no way to access the money apart from for educational need.

Hi Sunnyone
as far as I know there is no way they can be counted as savings for the parent
my own son had a substantial amount held by the court funds office- it was in his name and as you say you have no access to the funds and no choice over what it done with them
so I don't believe they would count against you, simply because the money actually has nothing to do with you ( as far as the law and courts are concerned)
perhaps a query to the CAB or similar might clear this up for you - but these funds are definitely NOT your savings

Capital held by dependents is not capital for a claimant.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
