Not my day is it! I have sold a small but heavy item 7.2kg to a buyer in Londonderry. Courier cost is £5 more than sending mainland UK, can I ask buyer for more money (they bid last minute, so I had no bids then it was sold, no time to check where they were)

Have a look to see if a Parcelforce service is cheaper. They don't charge extra for N.I.
It's normal to mention in your ad that non mainland is extra. Asking for the difference is fine, but may upset the buyer.

You may have to bite the bullet then and use special delivery if a courier comes out too dear. Special would ost £21.65.

Soo and Mac are spot on. If it has gone for a high price - you say it is worth £200 - then I would always foot the difference out of my own pocket though rather than asking buyer to pay more. It is worth paying over and above what you originally quoted to make sure the bulk of the money is yours to keep.

Send it via parcelforce 48 fully tracked. If you buy via paypal it's 10.99 (up to 30kg) with £50 insurance will cost you another £1 per £100 to up the insurance

Don't parcelforce have zones? BT postcodes are more expensive about 30 pounds I think. Some carriers charge the same for all of the UK.

I use Pharos to send to the Highlands and NI - you have to book online and print your own label.

As above, Parcelforce charge a flat rate via Paypal, at only 7kg though you may get a better deal shopping around, although if you used Parcelforce 24 via Paypal all the tracking details get logged in your Ebay account for both buyer and seller.

For the record Parcelforce do charge different rates for account customers.

I ended up using DHL so I could have a home pick up ... another lesson learned!
