colour settings

i have a navigational program for small boats which operates in 256 colour only ...( this was ok on old laptops ) is it possible to run this on a modern laptop ? if so how ? can modern laptops be adjusted to fit this requirement ? cheers vivg

    There should be a setting in display settings for your display adaptor

    As shown in picture this is windows 7 so may differ slightly for XP and Vista

  • It should just work fine and will only display 256 colours. Surely will only work in 256 is a misprint from many years ago when 16 / 32 colours was the norm.

    thanks for the advice i can't try it out yet as i'm searching for a new laptop... i needed to find this out before i purchased, i had been given conflicting ( and wrong ) advice previously by a pc shop !!!:money:

    Of course, if the Program is for Windows 3.1/95/98 it may have problems running on Windows 7. You may be able to run in in XP compatibility mode

    It's certainly worth trying the program on any Windows 7 laptop, as debitcardmayhem points out, to see if it's worth buying a new laptop in the first place!

    If it works on Windows 7, then the 256 colours known to the program will be among the very large number displayable by the laptop screen!
