Is now the time to fix??

Coming to the end of my Scottish Power online saver 7 deal and thinking about fixing till 2014 with Scottish Power platinum fix.
It will cost £150 a year more than my current tariff and about £180 more than the cheapest deal on the market at the moment but I do get Boiler cover (worth £150 per annum) and a free energy monitor (Worth £30).
Firstly what are every ones thoughts on future Gas / Elec prices, maybe no rise this year but what about next year and the year after that etc etc.
To fix in for over 3 years this does seem quite an attractive offer, it will take a 20% rise in current prices for this to break even on price but then I would still have the boiler cover as well...
Always suspicious when they start offering fixed price deals.
I only have a month to decide what I am going to do and which tariff I am swapping to.

Your question has been debated for years and it is like asking 'who will win the 2:30 race at Kempton Park'!! Nobody, but nobody knows the answer - not even the gas and electricity companies.
Five and six years ago the fixed/capped deals offered generally turned out to be good deals(albeit there was a heated debate when they were offered). However more recently they have generally not been so good for the customer.
Get a coin, toss it in the air and call 'heads' or 'tails' and err
