Scrapping a car?

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with what to do with my tired out old car.
The suggestion was to put it on ebay which I was about to do then things took a turn for the worst and the car has just died, so not only does it need a new gearbox it will need the ignition system sorting out as well (and other problems as well)
Its time to scrap it!
Which is the best way?
And what do I do with the V5? A lot of the scrap merchants in my local paper say DVLA notified but I dont really trust them. Is there anything I should watch out for?
