Rent Increase

Does a new tenancy agreement have to be issued when there is a rent increase for an existing tennant (AST)?

Speaking as a landlord - that's the way I've always done it in the past, but is it necessary or is there a simpler way?

    If you need to ask this question I would strongly advise you to do more than simply seek the answer.

    Join a landlords association (RLA or NLA), buy Tessa Shepperson's book, go to Landlordzone.

    Become a knowledgable landlord!

    Your tenant can remain under a statutory periodic tenancy and you can choose to serve a s13 Notice (under the Housing Act 1988)

    The T can appeal the increase via a rent assessment committee, and has to set this motion before the new rent would fall due.

    As you have also asked about guarantor agreements, it probably would be worth you signing up to Landlordlaw or one of the local or national LL associations ( there is also the Guild of Residential LLs) . Tax deductible membership fees, discount LL ins premiums and much useful guidance.
