money saving:boots?

I have larger calves and ive heard you should try and get a boot to fit at the slimmest bit (so for me ankles or near the knee) but, and i hate to admit it, i dont know what im looking for. Ive looked on Google, but can’t seem to see ideas, like what to wear with them, what boots will suit.
Ive seen some sites, which are more expensive as well and i dont know which heel will look good, or if any heel will. Im not into huge heels, but one i can walk in would be great.
So my questions:
Which boots can be used for all rounds, e.g. jeans, skirts ECT
Which ones would suit larger frame
Where can i find cheap boots?
Thanks

I have plump calves, and have a pair of knee high boots that have received a lot of compliments.
They're black, really plain, have 1cm heels, with a zip running from bottom to top at the back, and little flaps at the top(they may have a technical name) that can be folded down or pulled straight up to make the boots look even longer. As my calves are plump, I pull them up so as not to make the line of the boots any wider than my legs already make them! The overall effect is quite pleasing to the eye, as it's just a long uninterrupted line of black boot, thus making my legs look long.
They were reduced from £150 to under £100 at Debenhams, but have lasted three autumns and winters now, still going strong, and are very comfy for normal stomping about the place.
This is just my opinion, but unless you're a yearling thin leggy teenager, it's best to get boots that fit fairly snugly at the top, as you otherwise end up with a "rattling in a welly" effect, regardless of how nice the boots are.0 -
I'd definately say that if you are on the bigger size (as I am) try ankle boots with care. They tend to make your legs look shorter and stumpier which is no good unless you're a six foot model. Calf boots are definately the most flattering but can sometimes be sized to fit only matchstick legs. I'd recommend having a quick look around Evans as they make boots to fit normal calf sizes and have a good range that will go with almost anything. Plus, if you're not sure, pick up some skirts, trousers dresses etc and take them into the changing room with your boots, that way you can see for yourself if they work.
I particularly like evans leather xwide boots, Black Knee High Boots, evans Black Over Knee Boots and evans extra wide calf boots. I can't post links yet but you'll see them all on the evans website.
Hope you find some boots you like, I couldn't live without mine0 -
I'd go for knee highs, they will disguise a plump calf..
I LOVE my evans knee highs - £95, leather, bit of a heal - zip up - not cheap but worth every penny... I have had many a tearfull moment when I can't do boots up over my calf.....
Be carefull in evans, they do extra wide boots that have a large ankle which I find VERY baggy on me.
Some places do stretchy boots, that pull up which may also be a good option and a bit cheaper than full leater boots...
Whats your budget? do you prefer flat or a heal?0 -
Duo do boots to suit all calf widths, but they are not cheap.
You could try looking in TK Maxx, they usually have a good selection of boots and you can try them on to see if they will go over your calves.0 -
For everyone whos posted: you wouldnt happen to have the names of the boots?
thanks for the replies0 -

I can't see a name on mine, sorry. They're probably a Debenhams own brand.0

i think tkmaxx is a good choice, they offer a variet of sizes (im on the other end of the scale and most calf or knee length boots from the highstreet are far too big on the leg for me but i managed to get few decently priced ones) my mum is a slightly larger lady and she has got some great fur lined ones there too , o maybe i just cant fault tkmaxx !0

Sorry to barge in on your thread, but I'm having the same problem!!
Only difference is I know roughly what I want in terms of heel etc and have narrowed it down to some from the shoe tailor.com or Marisota. What I want to know is firstly has anyone dealt with either of them/ any good for returns/ whats the quality like etc and secondly I normally take a 7 shoe and 8 in boots but would I still need to take an 8 if these have wide fitting and wide calf sizes??
Any help would be appreciated as I would love to order them this week
