why do so many people try to avoid £50 pound notes. I can understand if your a small shop but me and my dad were in m and s and he spent £165 and he handed 3x£50 and a £20. the guy at the till looked as though we handed him foreign currency. the ordeal took 15 minutes until everyone in the shop had seen the note and decided whether it was real or fake. we have never had that problem paying in £50's before in any other shop. he would have used card but he would've been charged as his accounts are abroad. I wonder how some people would react if you paid in £100 pound notes?
also why do scottish banks distribute £100's when the boe don't?

NI banks issue £100 notes too. I get £50 notes regularly at work. I rub the note on a piece of paper and if it leaves behind a red mark I accept it.0

We are in Scotland and we recently went to Blackpool. When we paid with £50 notes we got mixed reactions. A resturant accepted them no bother. Some shops were quite apprehensive and one refused to take it.
When we bought our flooring up here in Scotland we paid with £100 notes and they were accepted with no problems.
Altough they did take my name and address so if there was anything wrong with them they knew where to get me. he he.0 -
There are loads of different security things on money - but apparently, one of them is that the ink never dries... (or so I was told. Wonder if it's a joke)0

if you rub the large "Bank of England" lettering at the top against a piece of white paper (and do it hard) then it will leave a mark.
It's probably worth pointing out that either this year or next year, the current £50 is being replaced with a new design similar to the current £20 - they're sticking boulton & watt on the back, in fact, it'll be the first note to feature more than one person on the back.0 -

Maccy Ds have a small machine they place the note in at the bottom it rolls the note (fast) up & back out at the bottom again and on screen displays the note amount - never seen that before but niftyProudly Banking & Saving With:

Are shops allowed to refuse to take a £50 note as payment? End of the day its legal tender and you're trying to make a payment. If they refuse surely thats their problem?0
