Kitchen Under Cabinet Lighting - LED?

After some advice from anybody who has installed under cabinet lighting recently.

Been looking for a while now for some under cabinet lighting for our new kitchen.

I would quite like some of these LED lights (Available in triangle/wedge shape units or strip lights). However, these are generally much more expensive than std halogen lights + I'm not sure how bright they are.

Anybody got any pics of LED light installs?

Any good websites you know of?

Anybody used the expensive 'Sensio' lights?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Hi, I am not sure if I am aloud to post or not. if not please advice

    I work for simplelighting.co.uk

If you need any pictures or help please give me a call 0800 334 5183.

I will be delighted to help you.

The LED strip lights are perfect for many things. Although costly to buy, you will save a lot of money in the long term.

Such as , not replacing bulbs every few months and they only use a fraction of the energy.

Hope I have been of help

LEDS are great as they are both cool and low energy BUT you have to be VERY careful when choosing as it is difficult to get the light levels we expect without substantial cost.

If it's for lighting tasks (actually using it to do something) rather than just background light then compact flourescents may be better. They typically work out at about a 1/8th the cost of LEDs for the same light output and last a very long time. A note of caution here though they do not stand being turned on and off frequently.

  • Like anything it all depends on quality. If you buy the LED's from the correct company you will get something which will last for years.

There are products which are 100% comparable to fluorescent's and other halogen lights

These are not hugely expensive, but be aware buying from eBay and sites like these will normally end up with people get inferior quality products.

We want these under the cabinets but also at plinth level. We may be putting in a plinth heater and the cooker is freestanding so there will be gaps in the lighting.. Can you get wires that go behind to extend the lengths or do you put them in separately for each length of plinth?
    thanks
