One thing I can tell you is that if you register with Ebay - they sell your email address. This is based on my missus registering with Ebay and supplying a new email account that we'd just got.

She now gets hundreds of spam emails and I know for a fact that that is the only site she;s given that email address to: I have her use a freeserve web mail acc for all other internet stuff but she typed in the new one by accident.

    Beware Ebay!

that is so untrue :rotfl: its illegal for ebay to do this... most spam gets through on guesses of email addresses... if you dont answer/unsubscibe most of the time they stop... my last spam was about 4 months ago

Just realised that I missed one step out from what I gave earlier

When in the < options > page, click on < POP Access and Forwarding > & then select the < I don't want to receive any messages that SpamGuard thinks are spam > option

I agree with the Mailwasher option. http://www.firetrust.com/
The free version has a limited number of accounts that can be used.

You can select all mail as "Junk", bounce it or delete it then uncheck the ones you want.

You can set up Friends or blacklist.

It hasn't reduced the amount of spam being sent, I don't honestly believe anything ever will, but it makes handling it VERY easy.

Yes, I also find Mailwasher (free) to be the only way to delete/block/bounce the spam coming in through my ISP without downloading it first, as the the ISP doesn't filter anything from their end....and this is to my private email addy that only friends and family have!
The spam is often to any word @*ISP's name*.co.uk , and is mainly not to me, personally, at all and it gets through based solely on the fact it is to my ISP domain.

As I've stated elsewhere on these forums, I use different Gmail accounts for things like online shopping, this forum, and anything else I need to register for....then they can be dumped and changed if and when the spammers get too obnoxious.

I think some spammers have software which generates random strings followed by known email endings like @hotmail.com, @yahoo.com, etc. so it could be that no one is to blame. I wish I got as few spam emails per day! Even with Thunderbird filtering them out I get dozens each day - the total is several hundred.

if you use ccleaner regularly, maybe 2-3 times a day if surfing it will clear cookies that websites use to get details
    ccleaner availabale free from here

    https://www.http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

and download latest version from right hand menu

this will clear all the cr*p from your computer but don't use the registry cleaner unless you either know what this means or you make a back up#
    hope this helps

I use K9 for my spam filter - http://keir.net/k9.html works well, is easy to setup and it's free.

Doesn't work with IMAP though, which is a bummer, but then I suppose you could use Thunderbird if IMAP and filtering is needed.
