Problem with Poundland refund

I had a problem getting a refund yesterday in the Sutton Coldfield branch on an unwanted product that I had purchased eight days before, for which I had the receipt. I was told that I could only have an exchange, as it is Poundland policy that a refund can only be given within 7 days. I buy a lot of goods from Poundland and could easily have exchanged the product for something else. However, there was nothing to tell me the information on my receipt, and when I asked where there was a notice in the shop to this effect I could not be shown one. A manager overheard the discussion and refunded me my money and apologised. There was a long queue of people behind me who saw all this.
Can anyone clarify the Poundland policy for me? I buy a lot of products from Poundland, and occasionally they are unsuitable and I need to get a refund. I have never experienced any previous difficulty with this.

Although you should have posted on the Consumer Rights bored, you are not entitled to a refund just because you do not like the product. If the item is not faulty, it is at the discretion of the retailer whether they will refund at all. In this case you were refunded, and should be grateful
You will find this is above the statutory rights.0 -

Some people walk, sorry for the shocking revelation. Nothing in the op suggests how they got there, but for all you know it's just around the corner.
That said, seems pretty silly stomping your consumer boots over a right that you do not have, for something that was only £1I'm curious as to what it was and why it was unsuitable.
