Hi can anyone help me please?? My mam has just moved into a bungalow which has storage heaters and a water tank that heats up on a timer,she is with scottish power,but its costing her a fortune to use them she is on a key meter,£5.00 only lasts her a day an half,and just wonderd if anyone knew which company would be better for her.. She is a pensioner..any help would be grately appreciated!! Thanks.

    Bungalows, being open on six sides, are expensive to heat. £100 is a solid whack each month but if she is using the heating then that is, in fact, not expensive - £3.33 for a whole day's heat is cheap. There are savings to be had by changing the meters to credit meters and switching to the cheapest tariff. Or, as a pensioner, she can apply for a social tariff which should yield a similar price without a changeover (but she has to double-check this.)

  • Is the house insulated? If not, perhaps she might be eligible for a free loft insulation or cavity wall insulation grant from the government.
