Bank Transfer Worry

Hello all.
Could someone put my mind to rest on this one?
I went to the bank today to transfer money to my landlords account to pay the rent (first ever payment to this landlord)
The money has left my account, but the girl behind the till spelt the landlords surname incurrectly.
Will the transfer still work if the surname is spelt incorrectly?
Also, i hope she hasnt cocked up the input of numbers aswell - if a number was wrong for acc number or sort code - surely it wouldnt have left my account?
If anyone could shed some light on this it would be great.
Thanks!:o
Andy

The spelling of the name makes no difference. You could put Mickey Mouse in the payee box and it would still get there.
If the numbers were incorrectly entered, then the most likely outcome would be for there to be an error straight away and it not even leave your account.
If that didn't happen, then it would probably bounce back in a few days time.
If the account details were wrong, there'd be about a 1% chance that it's gone into someone else's account.0 -
Only the Sort Code / Account number is used to target the destination account. The name is only used in cases where a payment drops into a holding account etc and needs some manual tracing.
If the Sort Code / Account number is input incorrectly a check digit test is performed which should pick up where a couple of characters are transposed - but it's far from foolproof.
The sensible way is to set up a bill payment online - try it with a small amount - then reuse that each month. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
