    No, between us we can manage the deposit. But it's the fact that he has found a flat that will accept benefits but needs to give 1 months notice to current ll, the new ll would rather not wait for a month for a tenant.
    Giving in notice without finding somewhere is risky as the place he's in now took 6 months to find as nobody would take someone one on benefits, without them paying the rent until the HB was sorted out, this could be £2k +.
