"I'm associated with a firm of solicitors" !

Oo-er, just found this instruction on an ebay listing :

Please note that I am associated with a firm of solicitors and should you purchase the car legitimately through this E-Bay Auction and not complete the purchase a claim through the small claims court for £500 will be made as a breach of contract - so please ensure you are genuine before placing a bid and have the required cash within 5 days to pick her up.

I am associated with a firm of solicitors - translated means- I once read the Sun pages about consumer rights and got a bit confused.

    Good grief.

While it technically is a breach of contract (if that is how you define eBay purchases and rulings have suggested that a contract is formed when the auction ends with a winning bidder, despite payment not yet having been made), there are much cheaper ways of dealing with NPBs than that rubbish.

EDIT: Nice one, Soo. So where does that leave me, with a qualification that includes a tiny bit of contract law, I wonder? A partner?

Not to worry, we're all associated with one of the most influential consumer advice organisations in the UK!
