After redundancy....drowning in a sea of forms....

That was me officially made redundant on Thursday there and was not too badly affected as i have payment protection and insurance on my Mortgage, 2 Credit Cards and Egg loan......so i thought....
I am being overwhelmed by the amount of forms i need to fill in and phone calls i need to make and also need to wait for my jobseekers claim to go through and on top of that i got a compromise agreement from my work that i need to get a solicitor to sign._pale_
I am also worried that it will take so long for these claims to go through that payments will still be taken from my redundancy money....which also was a lot less than i was expecting.
I am usually well organised but this is getting right on top of me and i feel like running away somewhere.
Does it get any easier?
Thanks for reading

As you have a compromise agreement, are you sure that you have been made redundant per se? I would take legal advice (which the employer should have offered to pay for) before agreeing to anything.Gone ... or have I?0

I have accepted the enemployment...there is no other option to work there at the moment and on the agreement my employer says they will pay up to £250 for costs.
Thanks for the reply.0 -

None of that adds up.
How can you be redundannt with a CA and not yet agreed to it?
Redundancy statutory is capped at £380 for each years service why is this a suprise?.
Why do they think a CA is needed, what have they done wrong?
Has your emplyment been terminated yet? if you have then there is no CA to sign.0 -

They offered an extra £1800 on top of my redundancy if i sign the CA, i don't think anything funny is going on, the payment is a goodwill gesture.
Its quite a big well known company and everything is always done by the books.0 -
So do you have an issue or was it just a rant(which is ok)?0

Sorry......just having a rant:o
Ok for now:)

I would be careful what you say in regards to the agreement as most CA's have a confidentiallity clause. You are allowed to say you have signed an agreement and have been made redundant but you should not discuss the contents.
OH is in a simular situation (on weds rather than thurs actually). We saw the solicitors on the friday and it was all straightforward and they are billing the company for the legal charges direct. Ring around and find a solicitor asap, just easier to get out of the way.
We are lucky in that we have no debt other than the mortgage (found MSE in good time a few years ago), but there are loads of groups to inform.
Have you made your JSA claim yet, in our area we have got a first interview for next week which we thought was pretty quick.
Depending on your job, register with as many agents as poss and get searching asap. If you have kids you will need to let tax credits know as you may be due more cash from them as well as the JSA.
Our local authority do free school meals if you qualify for the income based JSA, you will get free prescriptions and if you need glasses you can have a free eye test etc. Our local council advised us we could cancel the DD for the council tax and by the time they would be writing to us the benefit claim should be ongoing (they also were putting a note on the system as to the reason).
We sat down and made a list in a notebook of who we needed to speak to/claim from and followed the list through. We then made notes as to what was said/done and the details to keep track.
So much to sort out, but we are hoping OH will get something by Christmas. If not we will spread out what we have, freezer pretty full and hopefully chickens will lay through winter to help out lol.

Thanks for the reply ali,
I phoned up the JSA on the Thursday i was made redundant and managed to get an interview on the Friday morning and made an appointment to see a solicitor for Monday.
I am usually well organised and always get things sorted out immediately for peace of mind but i can't sort it out as quick as i would like just now.
I think i have most things organised now and will get my claim forms sorted in the next few days.
Can i ask one more thing if anyone knows.......i get two direct debits taken out of my bank for my insurance on my Mortgage, one for unemployment and another for illness....Do you think these will stop or do i still need to make these payments?
Thanks.0 -
