Limited account access problem on paypal

Hi folks

I'm in a bit of a pickle over paypal and its 'limited' my account. Has anyone else had the same problem? Apparently it is because 'I have received £4,500.00 GBP or more in total payments to your PayPal account'.

The reason I have had over £4,5000 paid in is not because I had a business, but because a while back I paid £4,000 into a gambling website and took it straight back out again in order to get cashback from my credit card (the site was doing a promotional offer but that's another story!).

In order to return my account to normal status and resolve it I have to fill in a form and provide business information. There is no option to say I don't have a business. I sent paypal an email explaining the situation by all I got was a standard response saying they had reason to believe I had a business and I should answer all questions as honestly as possible.

I have to specifiy business type, average transaction, date business establised or I can't use my account.

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks :)

Declare yourself as a business selling on ebay. There is nothing saying you have to be active. The problem is you are not a verified user and as such to protect themselves against money laundering after £4500 they stop the account till you prove who you are

check out https://www.paypalsucks.com and https://www.paypalwarning.com - people on these sites say they have lost all their money that paypal have held on to - because of "security" - they ask you to send in so much info, and after you have sent them all in, they will ask for more and more and more.......

When I verified mine it took all of a few minutes and a day or two delay and that was it, I don't consider myself particularly bright so I can only assume it is a simple process.

its not the verification im talking about, its when they "limit" your account so you cant access it fully or withdraw or pay people...

They only limit your account when you haven't verified it, i.e. they make a small deposit to your bank account, you then have to tell them this amount when they call you on your telephone number.

I've yet to do mine as i haven't yet reached my limit, although i know many other people who have done it without any problems.

on those 2 sites above they have limited peoples accounts even if they have been verified. they do it for "security" if there has been "unusual activity" or that on the account.

Ah i see, thanks for clarifying that.

Maybe it's best to close the account goingtothedogs, else you could end up losing your money.

goingtothedogs sadly had prob lost the money already - when paypal limit the account, thats it closed basicly - the amount of people who have lost money with paypal is amazing. |They can hold the money for 6 months and then might unlock the account but the majority of people have never had their accounts opened again. all i could suggest would be to read these stories http://www.paypalwarning.com/i_curse_the_day_paypal and there is more on the left hand side :(

  • Thanks for all the info. Luckily I've only £7 in there at the mo; I was actually more worried about the tax implications of admitting to having a business when I don't have one.

I've just read some of those stories, that's awful. Although if we don't use Paypal is there another alternative which we could use? As in something similar to Paypal?
