hello all

my situation is that me and my partner have been sleeping on a mattress on a floor for nearly a year now because our metal bed frame was terrible, so it worked out better to have mattress on the floor, now as winter is almost here, it is getting much colder at nights and our bed backs on to an outside wall (a wall that if you walked through the wall you would end up on the path down to our place) so it is the coldest part of the bedroom

and the mattress itself, it is from sleep masters, please never buy a bed from them, the mattress is terrible, i need about 3 covers underneath me whlle sleeping, and i still feel the springs, slightly, so it is uncomfortable

now my partner is getting more and more upset as it gets colder and she wants a new bed asap, i was looking at this bed http://goo.gl/N172 on amazon, but i do not know what it is like, the seller has all good reviews though, but i doubt i can get it on 0% finance though

i have heard it is much better to buy online, is it still best to avoid online catalogues and online high street stores though? like very and sleep right online?

well i guess you have an idea of what we are after now, something on 0% finance that we can afford to pay, and hopefully do not have to pay anything up front first, because we need a bed fast

we are unemployed by the way, not out of choice, we do not like being unemployed because it makes us both sad

i hope someone can help us, thank you for reading if you did

If there is any way you can afford to buy without finance, then you should be able to get the bed cheaper. It costs the retailer if they sell using 0% finance, so they just add the cost to the beds.

If you are receiving benefits, you could ask for a crisis loan from the benefits office.

Also look into charities - there's one near me where they restore second-hand furniture as a kind of training scheme thing for unemployed folk and then they sell it on - there's one price for employed people and a big discount for people on benefits.

I've been wondering about freecycle as I've recently moved. The main concern is how do you actually get the stuff into your home? Do people deliver, or do you have to arrange pick up your self? If it's the latter then for larger items, such as a bed as the OP requires, then it would be add cost to the item if you don't have your own transport.

By the way, to the OP, there's a double frame on IKEA called Engan, which is simple but contempory, for £69, although if you have it delivered, rather than collecting it in-store, I think the cost is an additional £35. Still not too bad, although I appreciate your predicament. As someone else you can apply to the social fund for a crisis but they will take the money out of your JSA benefit.
  • I am sure there are local companies who will deliver stuff at a cost they are often advertise to take unwanted stuff to the tip at a cost

Or surely someone local you know if you bung them some money or do a favour in return may pick it up if its not too far
