Telewest Broadband...Router advice

My daughter lives in Newcastle and is about to have Telewest install broadband and has asked me for advice...unfortunately I'm on BT and I use a wireless/modem/router, apparantly she just needs a wireless router.

Has anyone any more advice on the subject, is there a particular model recommended (its a three story house and shes on the top floor...lol) so it will need a good signal, can anyone recommend a good place to purchase (once we've decided on the model) especially ...can someone recommend one thats easy set up...I live in Norn Ireland so I can't nip round the corner to help her out !

Thanks...and If I've missed posts elsewhere on the forum apologies...I did a search for telewest but wasn't too sucessful

I use a Netgear WGR614 with a BY cable modem and it works fine. No idea on the range but mine works OK upstairs (two storey house) and in the garden. It was easy to set up and I've never had a problem with it.

If you buy wireless equipment from BY they actually supply Netgear equipment so all of their guides etc. are based around it so it may be worth considering Netgear for support reasons.

I got mine from ebay, it was a reconditioned one so it was relatively cheap. It has a US or European plug on it but the seller supplied an adapter for it.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

She should be able to use any cable router (rather than an ADSL router). See HERE for examples.

The difference being that it has a WAN socket that she should plug the ethernet cable from the cable modem into. Other than that it should work exactly the same as your ADSL router

I'm on NTL and use a Netgear WGR614 as well. Also bought off ebay for £30 (reconditioned, but like new, and all docs), and through the NTL modem. Mine also works fine, and has a decent range.
Just a pity my lappie HDD has decided to die on me, so the wireless is wasted until I get that replaced.
